You know that feeling when a song just gets you? Well, prepare to feel it. We're thrilled to welcome the incredibly talented Laura Golde to the Divine Xperience to talk all about her latest single, "Casamigos." From the first note, this track is a whole mood, and we can't wait to delve into the artistry behind it with Laura. Let's get started!

Q: The title "Casamigos" evokes a specific mood and perhaps a certain lifestyle. How does this title connect to the lyrical and sonic landscape of the single? What atmosphere were you aiming to create?

LAURA: I wanted to steer away from my usual topics, which are heartbreaks and love, to something more fun. So “Casamigos” off rip gives you that vibe of turning up, very much outside energy.

Q: Your vocal ability has been described as "out of this world." Can you delve into your personal philosophy or approach to vocal performance?

LAURA: As cliché as this sounds, it’s a feeling I feel, and to be honest, I’m still exploring my vocal ability as far as range and different pockets of music.

Q: What does it mean to you to truly connect with a song and convey its emotion through your voice?

LAURA: It means everything. Before I even wrote "Casamigos," I was in the bathroom and said I wanted a fun, outgoing song, so I kind of had to hype myself up as the beat was playing. Like, what does the beat make you want to say along with the message you're trying to push? And I really started to freestyle.

Q: In an industry often driven by trends, how do you strive to maintain the authenticity and integrity of your artistry, particularly when your vocal talent could lend itself to various genres?

LAURA: I always strive to go a little outside the box and say or do things people wouldn’t expect, just to grab the attention of the audience. Not to say I don’t watch trends, but I grab bits and pieces and still make it my own.

Q: What are the non-negotiables in your creative process? In a world saturated with music, what do you believe sets your artistry apart and what unique perspective do you bring to the R&B/neo-soul landscape?

LAURA: Authenticity - staying true to my identity, voice, and experiences. Being authentic to who I am as an individual, I want the audience to resonate with that raw emotional feeling. Storytelling - Crafting narratives that evoke emotions is crucial, especially in genres like R&B and neo-soul, where lyrics and melodies are deeply intertwined with personal experiences. Emotional Connection - Every note, lyric, and rhythm should aim to connect with the listener on a deeper level. Evolution - Balancing innovation with staying rooted in the essence of the genre sets a unique artistic path. How can I build on what already exists and pave my own lane/sound/identity?

Q: How do you navigate the balance between artistic expression and the expectations or pressures of the music industry? What are your strategies for staying true to your vision?

LAURA: Navigating the tensions between artistic expression and expectations demands both resilience and strategy. Here is how I break it down:

  1. Define my core values: What principles and messages should my music embody?

  2. Compromise: While it's essential to stay true to your vision, balancing with industry norms or trends can open doors for collaboration or commercial success without losing your authenticity.

  3. Create a support network: Surrounding myself with sound minds, other creatives, mentors, and collaborators who believe in my vision and can provide a source of encouragement and constructive criticism.

  4. Take ownership: I’m hands-on with my branding, marketing, distribution, and production. I can’t allow someone else to depict my creative identity.

  5. Set boundaries: Knowing when to say no to a project that doesn’t align with my artistic integrity is key to preserving a unique voice.
